(Seguin) — Local flood victims will now have more help available to them in Seguin. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is opening a Disaster Outreach Center started today (Wednesday, August 6) in downtown Seguin.

Seguin Fire Marshal Greg Dreiss says the FEMA center is available to anyone seeking disaster relief from federal government.

“FEMA will be on site at the old Wells Fargo building on East Nolte Street, and they will be set up there to allow our citizens from Guadalupe County and Seguin to come in and visit with FEMA and register for resources that are available. There is also supposed to be other volunteer organizations that will be on site to offer other assistance as available. But the biggest thing is getting them the resources started from FEMA as they move forward,” said Dreiss.

Several homes and businesses suffered flood damage during a storm on Saturday, July 5. It hit parts of the city hard, as well as some parts of Guadalupe County. Dreiss says anyone who suffered damages should visit the FEMA center now.

“We’ve already had probably close to two dozen homes that have been evaluated by FEMA already, and they are already in process for FEMA assistance. This is hoping to find the rest of those people, (who need help), said Dreiss.

Dreiss says the clock is now ticking for those who would like to visit the temporary recovery center in Seguin.

“They’re only going to be here for seven days, and so they need to act now. It will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the exception of (Wednesday). They’ll be opening at 11 a.m. the first day they’ll be here,” said Dreiss.

The old Wells Fargo Building is located at 101 E. Nolte St., across from Seguin’s Central Park.
