(Seguin) — Smokey Joe Williams Field is hosting the Southwest Regional Senior Little League Baseball Tournament starting today.
The tournament features six teams from New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. The teams compete in the Little League Senior Division, which comprises boys ages 13-16 years old.
The host team is New Braunfels Little League. New Braunfels is playing Deming, New Mexico in the first game of the Southwest Regional this afternoon at Smokey Joe. First pitch is set for 5 o’clock.
The tournament runs through Monday. The champion of the tournament will advance to the Senior League Baseball World Series in Easley, South Carolina. The World Series takes place July 26 through August 2.
A ceremonial first pitch will take place on Saturday morning starting at 8:30 a.m. The Challenger League exhibition game will follow the first pitch with the Arc Angels of New Braunfels taking on the Seguin Challenger Little League team. Gate prices for the Southwest Regional at Smokey Joe are $5 a day or $20 for a tournament wristband. Children under 12 are free.
