(Seguin) — The city of Seguin is again reminding the community about an important public meeting tonight.
The city is hosting another meeting on the proposed concept for its long term Transportation and Mobility Plan. Cities and counties use the plans for long range planning, which is meant to address possible needs in the future if areas begin to significantly develop and grow.
The meeting is expected to be a come and go gathering that will give all stakeholders a chance to view the proposal and also provide important feedback. None of the proposal is set in stone, and none of the proposed road systems have any immediate plans for development. But that’s not stopped some strong reactions from some people who live in the Laguna Vista subdivision near Rudeloff Road. Folks from the neighborhood shared strong opposition for a proposed roadway that’s included in the plan, that they say would adversely impact their area. The neighbors lined up and spoke out during Tuesday’s Seguin City Council meeting, and their voices were united in opposition.
Seguin City Manager Steve Parker says this is exactly the kind of feedback that they want, but he stressed that any suggestion that this was a project that was actively being pursued — is simply not true. He says they create these plans so that they are prepared for any possibility as more and more land in the area is developed.
Parker says the concepts included in the plan also try to align with other transportation and mobility plans that are also in the works for Guadalupe County and the city of New Braunfels. He says it helps them better serve existing communities as well, as new developments come online.
The Transportation and Mobility Master Plan looks decades into the future and focuses on roads, sidewalks and other transportation programs. The public meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. this evening at the city’s Utilities Operations Center Training Room, located at 3027 N. Austin St.
