(Seguin) — Members of the Guadalupe County Democratic Club are clarifying their rally slated for Saturday in downtown Seguin. The “No Kings” rally is not just a protest against the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement practices. Organizers say immigration is one of the issues they will focus on, but they are more broadly opposed to the overall policies of the president.
The “No Kings” rally is scheduled to take place from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday in downtown Seguin. Reports online suggest that counter-demonstrations may also occur during the event. The local rally is expected to be a peaceful demonstration, but Guadalupe County Sheriff Joshua Ray issued a statement saying that his office would be there to make sure things remains peaceful.
“The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office will always protect any and all citizens’ constitutional rights including free speech and the right to peaceably assemble. The moment it is not peaceable, protest become criminal acts, property is damaged, or persons are injured; our Deputies have been instructed to take quick and decisive action for the safety of all persons,” said Ray in the statement released on Friday.
There are also No Kings protests planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Wiederstein Elementary School in the Schertz and Cibolo areas; and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hays County Courthouse Square in San Marcos.
