(Seguin) — The Seguin Wave Pool is back for the summer, and plenty of people have already taken to the community pool – enjoying the crashing waves like nowhere else in the immediate area.
Not only can you bring your own food, but families have the option of either enjoying the large crashing waves or letting the small ones run around the kiddie pool.
Ily Stamm, a manager at the Seguin Wave Pool, says it’s great for the community to have an affordable and convenient aquatic facility – a place that families can visit and enjoy on a hot day.
“It’s small-town life. Everyone knows. Everyone’s like, seeing people, you know, and just working together. I think that’s really great. Also, again, the affordability Schlitterbahn is expensive, and having this affordable option for everyone in the community is really great. And we do offer discounts and all that,” said Stamm.
Local resident Kc Gonzales shares the same sentiment, remarking that her family enjoys being able to drive five minutes down the road to the wave pool rather than driving 40 minutes to New Braunfels.
“Last year, we did, Schlitterbahn passes, and I mean, it’s alright, but, like, it’s so crowded, you got to find parking, and then you got to walk, like, miles to just get to the front. And then after everybody’s exhausted after a long day to still drive back, like, 40 minutes. I mean, I know it’s a lot, you know, especially, like, if you have that, it was like. So I mean, we’re like five minutes away from here. And so like, I get to be home in five minutes, you know. So, like it’s very convenient and affordable,” said Gonzales.
The feelings of community were exemplified by the sights of families sitting together at the picnic tables, eating sandwiches, drinking cold refreshments, and conversing on the partly cloudy Memorial Day this past Monday.
Another local resident, Victoria Ramirez also recollected on how her younger summers were filled with memories — always spending time with friends at the wave pool.
“When I was younger, I was a part of the Seguin summer day camp that they had for children. I pretty much spent all of my years that I could at the summer camp and one fun thing that they (had), or let us do at the summer camp was take us to the wave pool at least a couple times a week. And I always looked forward to going because I got to spend time with all my friends there at the wave pool. So, you know, being able to hang out with them and throughout the whole summer was just something that I really kept with me throughout my life and remember even as I have gotten older,” said Ramirez.
Although the waves remain popular, there is one new accommodation being made this year by the Seguin Parks and Recreation Department. Stamm says that accommodation is the addition of no-wave days happening this summer.
“It’s a new thing we’re trying out. It is very common that lots of younger kids and more elderly individuals that come to our pool don’t like the waves as much. It’s like, yes, there’s people who know how to swim, and then there’s people that don’t, but they want to get in the water. So, I feel like that’s a great option, especially for those little kids and like people with newborns, because you’re not always too sure what the waves, just having that calm water, it’s a very like more peaceful version of what our crazy wave pool usually is,” said Stamm.
The no-wave days are scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4th, and Wednesday, June 18th.
The Seguin Wave Pool is open Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. Cost is $5 for kids ages 4-11; $6 for those 12 to 59 and $5 for seniors age 60 and older. There is no cost for children 3 and under.
All guests entering the complex are required to pay the admission price. The cost is 50 percent off after 4 p.m. Tickets are also 50 percent off for groups of 10 or more.
Season passes for a family of six are also now available for $125. Individual passes are $50. To purchase passes, visit the Seguin Parks and Recreation Department Facebook page or call 830-401-2480.
No child under the age of 14 will be admitted to the pool without an adult. The Seguin Wave Pool is located at Max Starcke East.
