Eugene Melvin Lee Jr. was born on September 3, 1950, in Seguin, Texas, to Alma Johnson Lee and Eugene Melvin Lee Sr. He was the cherished only child of this union.
A graduate of Seguin High School, Class of 1969, Eugene pursued higher education at Blinn College before attending The Commonwealth College of Mortuary Science in Houston, Texas. He earned his degree in Mortuary Science and became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer on May 7, 1973, dedicating his life to serving families with compassion and professionalism.
Upon completing his studies, Eugene returned to Seguin to work alongside his parents at Lee & Son Funeral Home. He later continued his career at Bell and Bell Funeral Home and Cremations until his health began to decline. Well respected throughout Seguin, Gonzales, San Antonio, and the surrounding areas, Eugene was a proud member of the Funeral Directors Association of San Antonio. His passion for funeral service was evident from a young age, as his mother fondly recalled him holding memorial services for birds in their backyard.
Even as his health declined, Eugene remained devoted to his profession, often speaking about his love for the funeral home business with friends at the nursing facility. He was a lifelong member of Wesley-Harper United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully as an usher and was an active member of the United Methodist Men’s Group. Additionally, he frequently worshiped with his family at Greater Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
On March 11, 1982, Eugene married Alvena Scott Lee, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Alvena Scott Lee; his daughter, Stephanie Lee Bogany (Derric); and his grandson, JonPaul (JP) Stephen Bogany of Austin, Texas. He also leaves behind his cousin, Willie J. Lee Jr. (Connie) of Seguin, Texas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
