School district shares timeline, expectations of naming a lone finalist
(Seguin) — The Seguin ISD will not be left in the dark when it comes to the search for the next superintendent. That’s according to Emily Allen, the Seguin ISD director of communications.
With Superintendent Dr. Veronica Vijil set to retire later this year, Allen says the district has launched a structured, transparent timeline to select her successor. She says the official application deadline for the superintendent position wraps up this week.
From there, she says the timeline will unfold into the summer.
“The application deadline is approaching this Wednesday, May 21. So, we are still working with the Texas Association of School Board’s Executive Search Services to narrow down that search as Dr. Vijil plans to retire and then our trustees will review those applications at a special meeting next week and then they will do their first round of interviews on Saturday, May 31. Then, we are looking ahead to a second interview early June and naming that lone finalist in mid-June and then obviously, they have to wait 21 days as required by state law and then trustees expect to vote to hire that lone finalist by Thursday, July 10. So, it will be a very busy summer for Seguin ISD,” said Allen.
Prior to this week, the Seguin ISD gathered input for this search through community meetings and through a districtwide survey.
In March, Vijil announced her plans to retire after 32 years of public education. The retirement agreement that reached with the board states that she will remain in her current position until June 30. At that time, she will be reassigned to the position of superintendent emeritus. She will then later resign as superintendent emeritus and officially retire from the district on December 31 of this year.
