(San Antonio) — The Navarro Panther baseball season came to a close on Friday night with a 6-3 defeat to 4th-ranked Sinton in game two of the Class 4A Region IV semifinals at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.
The Pirates scored the game’s first five runs, getting single runs in the 1st and 3rd innings and three in the 2nd. Navarro pitcher Peyton Helford would limit the damage in the 3rd inning. After relieving starter Matthew Villanueva, the sophomore lefty got out of a bases loaded jam with one out by striking out a Sinton batter and then getting a groundout. Helford would pitch scoreless innings in the 4th and 5th while striking out three.
Freshman Ryan Davidson would enter for Navarro in the 6th. The right-hander had four punch-outs and struck out the side in the 7th.
The Panthers scored their first run when Colt Brown stole home in the bottom of the 4th. Navarro scored their two other runs in the 5th. Caleb Wood drove Craig Heiman home with a sacrifice fly and Emerson Elder would score later in the inning on a double steal with Brown taking second base.
Sinton won the series 2-0 after taking game one, 14-13 in eight innings on Thursday night in Corpus Christi. The Pirates will face Navarro’s District 26-4A rival Wimberley in the regional finals this week.
The Panthers earned a share of the 2025 district championship with Wimberley and Davenport. Navarro finished the season with a 24-5 overall record under first year head coach Colton Maiorka.
