Sinton takes regional semifinal series opener with Navarro; game two to be heard tonight on KWED

(Corpus Christi) — The Sinton Pirates took the opener of the Class 4A Region IV semifinal series with the Navarro Panthers last night, winning 14-13 in eight innings at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi.

Navarro jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three and a half innings. Colt Brown smacked a two-run home run to left field in the top of the 4th with two outs to give the Panthers a seven-run lead.

In the 5th inning, Caleb Wood went deep to left with a three-run shot. In the 6th, Brown would double and come home later on a dropped third strike by Sinton to score Navarro’s 11th run.

The Pirates would get big innings in the 4th, 5th and 6th. Sinton scored four runs in both the 4th and 5th innings and would put five runs on the board in the bottom of the 6th to take their first lead of the game at 13-11.

Navarro rallied in the top of the 7th to tie the game when Wood doubled home Craig Heiman and then later scored on a wild pitch to knot the game at 13. In the bottom of the 8th, Sinton’s Dylan Arriaga drew a bases loaded walk to end the game and give the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the series.

The best-of-three series continues tonight at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio. Game three, if necessary, will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Wolff Stadium.

We’ll be at Wolff Stadium tonight for game two. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. And we’ll be joined during our broadcast tonight by new Navarro Athletic Director and head football coach Glenn Hill.

Our Navarro Panther playoff baseball coverage on KWED starts at 6:45 p.m. tonight from Wolff Stadium. If the Panthers force a game three, we’ll also have that game tomorrow on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.
