(Seguin) — Guadalupe County is calling on residents to get rid of their unwanted junk. The county will be hosting another Bulk Clean-up Event this Saturday at the Guadalupe County Road & Bridge Department located just south of the Guadalupe County Jail.
Among those encouraging residents to take advantage of the free opportunity is Guadalupe County Commissioner Pct. 4 Stephen Germann.
Germann says after launching this new service last year, officials quickly realized the importance of continuing the event.
“They are very successful. The first one was somewhere around 560 vehicles that we served. That be trucks, trailers, cars but it is many many tons of trash that we disposed of – a lot of washing machines and mattresses – big bulky items that people need a place for and we take them off their hands,” said Germann.
Germann says participating in the cleanup is easy. Just drive up to the collection site and remain in your vehicle as crews unload items from the back of car, truck or 12-foot trailer.
With Flood Awareness Week beginning Monday, May 19, county officials say this is also a good time to utilize the free disposal opportunity to remove debris – debris that could block stormwater flow and contribute to property flooding.
Germann says this initiative should also serve as a reminder that illegal dumping is a crime and poses financial and environmental burdens.
He says these collection efforts are just the first steps toward having a clean county.
“We are trying to help keep the county clean by doing these. Please don’t dump your trash. Bring it. We will take care of it for you,” said Germann.
To participate in the county’s Bulk Cleanup Event, residents must show proof of Guadalupe County residency with a photo ID or utility bill. Vehicles are asked to enter from North Austin Street. They’ll then be directed to the disposal area on North Guadalupe Street.
