Sizeable drug bust on SH 130 leads to arrest

(Guadalupe County) — A routine traffic stop on State Highway 130 led to a major drug bust Tuesday evening after law enforcement officers discovered more than half a million dollars’ worth of cocaine concealed inside a vehicle.

Guadalupe County Sheriff’s officials say the narcotics were uncovered by Sgt. Dustin Crawford, who conducted the stop on a white Mazda passenger vehicle just after 5 p.m. Inside the vehicle were four occupants — two adults and two juveniles.

According to the sheriff’s office, Sgt. Crawford developed indicators of possible criminal activity during the stop and requested consent to search the vehicle. That search uncovered 26.45 kilograms of cocaine hidden in multiple false compartments.

The driver, identified as Cindy Yanez, 36, of Mission, Texas, was taken into custody and charged with Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Additional charges are expected. The sheriff’s office is thanking the Seguin Fire Department and Guadalupe County Fire and Rescue for their help in dismantling the false compartments found throughout the vehicle.
