Seguin ISD selects the district's Teachers of the Year

(Seguin) — Seguin ISD’s top two educators were named the best of the best for the 2024-2025 school year.

The school district announced Wednesday night both its elementary and secondary teachers of the year.

The recipients were selected from a pool of educators who also earned the title for their respective campus this past spring.

Earning this year’s title of Seguin ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year was Natalie Bader of Patlan Elementary.

Bader, a fifth-grade math teacher, says she appreciates the vote of confidence especially when things are challenging.

“It was just very unexpected. It’s a huge honor. I think everybody deserves it. It was good to see everybody recognized. It’s a lot of work. It’s the most rewarding career but the most exhausting and I think it’s unrecognized in a lot of ways, so I think everybody deserves the credit and I’m honored that we got to be here to take it,” said Bader.

Named as this year’s Secondary Teacher of the Year was Imelda Brena of Seguin High School. Brena, who serves as the math department lead at SHS, says she is thankful for her entire 14-year journey in the Seguin ISD.

“I’m just overjoyed. This is my hometown. This is my community, my alma mater so I’m just honored to have received this award and I thank God for everything — all the doors that he has opened and those he will continue to open and I’m just so happy to be of this great community and to be of this district and just see innovation and change come and just be a part of it as well and contribute my little mustard seed,” said Brena.

The Teachers of the Year were announced during the annual end of year banquet held at the Seguin Coliseum. The banquet also recognized several individuals who will be retiring at the end of May along with those employees who have dedicated years of service to the Seguin ISD.
