(Seguin) — The South San Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the Class 5A best-of-three bi-district series over Seguin with a 3-1 win over the Matadors in game one of the series on Thursday at Matador Legends Ballpark.
The Mats got on the board in the bottom of the 1st. Kevin Lingueno doubled with one out. Two batters later, Samuel Edwards would double, scoring Lingueno but Edwards would be thrown out at third to end the inning. South San starter Matt Reyna would keep the Mats off the scoreboard the rest of the afternoon as he got the complete game victory, striking out 10 batters while scattering six hits.
Griffin Welfel got the start for Seguin and also tossed a complete game. Matador ace Corey Dailey is expected to start game two today. The start time has been moved up due to rain in the forecast tonight.
Game two will start at 5:30 p.m. at South San High School. If the Mats win today, game three will be held tomorrow at Noon at the SAISD Sports Complex. If today’s game is rained out, a doubleheader will be scheduled starting at Noon tomorrow. If Seguin wins game two or if today’s game is postponed, we will have the Matadors and Bobcats on KWED tomorrow.
(Kyle) — The Seguin Lady Matadors also fell in game one of their area round softball series on Thursday, falling to Leander 9-3 in Kyle.
The Lady Lions jumped on the Lady Mats for six runs in the first two innings and never looked back. Erin Johnston, D’Yanna Priestly and Marissa Torrence drove in Seguin’s three runs in the bottom of the 6th.
Game two of the series has been pushed up to 4 O’clock today at Lehman High School. We’ll have today’s game on AM 1580 KWED and streaming at SeguinToday.com. If the Lady Mats force a game three, it will be held on Saturday at Noon.
(Smithville) — The Navarro Panthers went up 1-0 in their Class 4A bi-district round best-of-three series with Manor New Tech, run-ruling the Titans 10-0 on Thursday night.
Up 8-0 in the bottom of the 4th, Elijah Farley crushed a two-run home run to center to put the Panthers up 10. Navarro pitcher Colt Brown would retire the Titans in the top of the 5th to invoke the run-rule. Brown started and went the distance allowing only one hit and striking out 15.
Game two has also been moved up to this morning to 11 a.m. A game three, if necessary, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
(San Antonio) — The Marion Bulldogs take on Crystal City in the Class 3A bi-district series starting today and the times for the first two games have been moved up due to wet weather in the forecast.
The best-of-three series takes place at Southwest Legacy High School in San Antonio. The teams will play a doubleheader this morning. The start time of game one has been moved to 10 a.m. Game two will be played 30 minutes after game one. Game three, if necessary, will take place on Saturday morning at 10 O’clock.
(Seguin) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs are in Seguin today for a one-game Class 3A area softball playoff.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on Columbus in a one-game playoff. The game time has been moved up an hour to 6 p.m. at Matador Legends Ballpark in Seguin.
