(San Marcos) — Seguin, Navarro and Marion High School student-athletes were recently recognized on the Academic All-State track & field teams by the Texas High School Coaches Association.
Honored for their work on the track and in the classroom were Seguin’s Ocean Moreno and Sammy Bode, who were both named to the boys academic all-state second team. Joining Moreno and Bode with academic all-state honors were Daylen Sapenter, Aedus Tobias and Ramiro Galvan who were all named honorable mention.
Navarro High School was represented by Emilio Salazar and Yandel Ramon. Salazar was named to the boys academic all-state first team while Ramon was selected as an academic honorable mention.
For the Navarro girls, Madison Gilliam was honored on the all-state academic second team. Linlee Sturm and Elizabeth Hagan earned academic all-state honorable mention.
Marion High School academic all-state honorees included Maggie Luna and Stephanie Andrade who earned girls all-state second team recognition. Aiden Vargo and Julio Arroyo were named boys all-state academic honorable mention.
The UIL State Track and Field Meet will be held Thursday through Saturday in Austin. Seguin’s Daisha Shular will look for the gold in the girls 100 and 200 meters in the Class 5A meet. The 5A competition will be held on Friday.
Marion and Navarro athletes will compete in the Class 3A and 4A competitions on Thursday. Maggie Luna will represent Marion in the Class 3A girls 400 meters. Kaitlyn Rackley will compete in the girls pole vault.
The Marion boys 4X100 relay team will also compete. That team is composed of Jaylen Reese, Tanner Otis, Aaron Salinas and Jack Wells. And Brody Fizer will compete in the boys pole vault at the state meet.
Navarro freshman Emerson Cochran will compete in the girls 400 meters at the state meet in the Class 4A competition.
The state track and field meet will take place at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium on the UT-Austin campus.
