Marion Lady Bulldogs take bi-district series opener from Lytle

(Marion) — Zayah Bernal threw a complete game two-hitter as the Marion Lady Bulldogs took their playoff opener in the bi-district round over Lytle with a 6-0 shutout win on Wednesday at Marion High School.

Bernal had two hits at the plate and Alyson Robles drove in three runs as Marion took a 1-0 lead in the Class 3A best-of-three series. Up 3-0 in the bottom of the 4th, the Lady Bulldogs doubled their lead with three runs in the inning. Bernal led off with a base hit and her courtesy runner Maeleigh McClendon would later score from third on a sacrifice fly from Maddie Peavler. Ellie Parker followed with an RBI single to plate Gianna Ricarte and Cambry Dojahn would score the third run of the inning when Robles drew a bases loaded walk.

The sophomore Robles drove in the sophomore Dojahn twice in the game. Dojahn came home on a Robles single to score the first run of the game in the first inning.

Bernal struck out five from the circle to earn the game one victory. Game two is scheduled for today in Lytle. Game three, if necessary, would take place on Saturday at Noon in Marion.

(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors start their Class 5A bi-district series on Friday.

The Lady Mats, the co-champions of District 27-5A, match up with the San Antonio Southwest Lady Dragons in the bi-district round. The playoff is also a best-of-three series.

Game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday evening at Matador Legends Ballpark. Game two will take place on Saturday at Noon at Southwest High School. A game three, if necessary, will take place following game two on Saturday afternoon.

(San Antonio) — The Seguin Matador baseball team will look to clinch the District 27-5A championship when they play at San Antonio Jefferson on Friday.

The Matadors clinched at least a share of the district title on Tuesday when three pitchers combined to no-hit San Antonio Lanier. Jackson Kirchner, Elijah Hernandez and Caleb Campos combined for the no-no in a 15-0 victory at Legends Ballpark.

Seguin leads San Antonio Edison by one game heading into the final game of the regular season tomorrow. A win by the Matadors over Jefferson tomorrow will give Seguin the outright district title. The Mats will play in the bi-district round next week. Friday’s game with Jefferson starts at 7 p.m. in San Antonio.

(Fredericksburg) — The Navarro Panthers will wrap their regular season tomorrow at Fredericksburg.

Navarro’s Colt Brown no-hit the Billies on Tuesday. The hard-throwing senior fanned 15 Fredericksburg batters in the no-hitter.

Navarro is 7-2 in District 26-4A, one game behind first place Wimberley. The Panthers and Billies will meet at 7 O’clock on Friday night in Fredericksburg. Navarro will play in the bi-district round next week.

(Marion) — And the Marion Bulldogs will close their regular season with a non-district game against Cuero tomorrow afternoon.

The Bulldogs are in the bi-district playoffs after finishing second in District 27-3A. Tomorrow’s first pitch between the Gobblers and Bulldogs takes place at 5 O’clock at Marion High School.
