(Seguin) — An 8-year-old child is currently in the hospital after being struck by a bullet in a home Monday night.
Seguin Police say at approximately 9:17 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 900 block of Pecan Street.
Prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, the female victim was transported by private vehicle to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. She was later transferred by Seguin EMS to University Hospital in San Antonio. Reports indicate that the child had been inside her residence when she was struck by a bullet fired from outside the home. She is currently reported to be in stable condition.
The location of the shooting was near the Seguin Little League Complex where numerous children were present at the time. Due to the close proximity of the multiple rounds of gunfire, children and spectators were immediately evacuated from the area as a safety precaution.
Seguin Police Department officers and detectives quickly identified two suspects and obtained arrest warrants. A warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon has been issued for Isaac Montelongo, a 20-year-old Hispanic male from Seguin. A second warrant for Assault – Family Violence has been issued for Vanessa Herrera, a 22-year-old Hispanic female, also from Seguin who was on the scene at the time of the incident.
“The Seguin Police Department aggressively pursues all threats to public safety,” said Chief Jason Brady.
“However, threats to the children of our community will not be tolerated under any circumstances. We are committed to ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.”
