For Immediate Release
SEGUIN, Texas — No. 6 Texas Lutheran completed the series sweep over Schreiner in dominating fashion, winning 14-0 in five innings.

With the win, Texas Lutheran continues to keep pace with the 2018 squad, one that saw assistant coach Kyla Lockley appear as a player, for best start in program history with a 31-1 start.

In the circle, pitcher Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead) tossed a two-hit complete game shutout, while the Bulldogs scored 14 runs on 11 hits offensively.

The Bulldogs (31-1, 23-1 SCAC) did not allow Schreiner (7-28, 4-20 SCAC) to score a run on the weekend, outscoring the Mountaineers 30-0 in 15 innings.

The Bulldogs put up runs in each of the four innings they went to the plate.

In the first, Faith Hernandez (Dinuba, CA/Dinuba) contributed a two-RBI single and Tavery Ortiz (Texas City/Texas City) had an RBI groundout to power the Bulldogs three-run first inning.

The second inning saw TLU put up seven runs on six hits and a Schreiner error, including two home runs. After Bella Rodriguez (Pearland/Pearland) stole home and an RBI single from Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek), Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) and Hernandez blasted homers in consecutive at-bats. With Gonzalez’s homer, she joins Haley Padilla as the only two members of Texas Lutheran’s 20 career home run club.

Serena Gonzalez drove in her fourth run of the game in the third inning on a sacrifice fly for TLU’s only run of the third.

In the fourth, freshman Chesley Swisher (Cypress/Bridgeland) turned a Schreiner fielding error into a little league home run coming around to score following a dropped fly ball. Gonzalez drove in the final two runs of the game with a two-RBI single.

Howard went all five innings, only allowing hits in the fourth and fifth innings while walking two and striking out three. Howard improved to 7-0 on the season as she collected TLU’s 15th shutout of the season and seventh in their last nine games.

At the plate, seven Bulldogs registered a hit in the contest. Three Bulldogs had a multi-hit game with Hernandez leading with three hits on the day. Five Bulldogs drove in at least one run with Gonzalez leading the way with six and Hernandez driving in three.

Gonzalez went 2-for-3 in the contest and brought in six runs, including three on her home run. The six RBI performance is the 11th in program history in which one player was responsible for at least six RBI with the last occurrence happening last season when her teammate Kylee Jack (Richwood/Brazoswood) drove in six against UT-Dallas. Faith Hernandez was a perfect 3-for-3 with a solo home run and a trio of RBIs. Also with the six RBI, Gonzalez brought her career total to 113, tying Nicole Snow for fourth all-time in program history.

Caelee Clark and Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton) continued their tears at the plate and on the base paths as the two seesaw as the national leader in stolen bases. It was a historic day for the Bulldogs duo as Clark, the national career leader across all three NCAA levels in stolen bases, stole her 200th career base on Sunday. Clark joins former Bulldog Kelly Jurden as the only players to reach the 200 stolen base mark in NCAA Division-III history and ninth across all levels. Annie Kay stole her 100th career base in addition to going 2-for-3 with three runs scored on Sunday, becoming the second Bulldog this season to reach the landmark and the fifth all-time.

Next up, No. 6 TLU welcomes Dallas to Ed Kruse Stadium for the final home series of the 2025 regular season, April 17-18. The series opens with a doubleheader at 5 & 7 PM on Thursday, April 17 with the games being streamed on TLU+. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
