(Los Angels) — A legend in television production, whose first job was at KWED Radio in Seguin, has died. Don Mischer is best known for producing most of the special live television moments that you can likely remember. He was a master of his craft and produced everything from the Oscar and Grammy ceremonies to Super Bowl Halftime Shows and to Olympic opening ceremonies. He was a living legend in Hollywood. He died Friday night at his home in Los Angeles. Mischer was 85.
Mischer was said to speak highly of his time in Seguin as a student at Texas Lutheran College and as a disc jockey at KWED Radio. During one of his past birthday celebrations, his wife sent a film crew to Seguin to capture some of the memories and locations that Mischer had discussed over the years.
KWED General Manager Darren Dunn was working the Saturday morning.
“I got a chance to visit with his wife during that filming. She told me that the radio station had a special place in his heart, and she also wanted to meet former KWED owner Stan McKenzie,” said Dunn.
Mischer attended Texas Lutheran, but eventually graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.
