(Wimberley) — Four Navarro High School track and field athletes are going to regionals after their performances at the Area meet held in Wimberley on Wednesday.
In the girls competition:
Madison Gilliam qualified for the regional meet in two events. The senior won bronze in the 800 meter run and finished fourth in the 400 meters.
Lilian Flo qualified in the 1600 meter run. The junior finished third earning a bronze medal.
And Emerson Cochran qualified for the regionals in three events. The freshman had fourth place finishes in the 100 meters and 200 meters. Cochran earned a bronze medal in the 400 meters.
Josiah Saberon also qualified in the boys 100 meter dash. The freshman placed third in the event earning the bronze.
All four Navarro student-athletes will compete at the Class 4A Region IV meet next week. The meet will be held Friday and Saturday, April 18th and 19th at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
(Seguin) — Marion High School athletes also impressed at their area meet Wednesday in Seguin.
Maggie Luna took the bronze in the girls triple jump. She won silver in the 100 meter dash. And she won the gold in the 400 meter to qualify for the regionals in all three events.
Kaitlyn Rackley and Kay Zook qualified in the girl pole vault. Rackley won the gold medal with Zook finishing 4th.
Tylie Siemsen and Stephanie Andrade will go to regionals in the discus competition. Siemsen finished 2nd and Andrade was 4th in the area competition.
Three Marion relay teams earned trips to the regional meet. The 4X400 and 4X100 teams finished fourth. And the 4X200 relay team won the gold.
As a team, the Marion girls finished second at the area meet.
For the boys, Gavin Soefje took fourth in the triple jump to move on to the regional meet. Tanner Otis sprinted his way to the gold in the 200 meter dash. Pole vaulters Brodie Fizer and Hayden Robbins won silver and bronze medals, respectively. And the 4X100 team won silver.
All of those Marion student-athletes will compete at the Class 3A Region IV meet to take place next week in Seguin. The meet will be held at Matador Stadium Friday, April 18th and Saturday, April 19th.
