Free event to include live music, desserts, awards
(Seguin) — You’re invited to slow down, smell the roses and celebrate everything that makes downtown Seguin great.
This Friday night marks the annual return of Moonlight & Roses. The free event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Memorial Rose Garden located at Walnut Springs Park.
Kyle Kramm, Seguin Main Street and DVB director, says the event is designed to be an elegant night under the stars.
“It’s annual tradition that is always held the first Friday in April and it’s a celebration of our downtown. We also have live jazz music in the rose garden and then there’s complimentary desserts in the park as well so it’s just a good evening to come out and enjoy the beautiful rose garden with great music and just be a part of the community and celebrate downtown,” said Kramm.
One of the ways to celebrate downtown during the Moonlight & Roses event is with the presentation of the 2024 Downtown Awards. Kramm says the awards are the city’s way of recognizing the volunteers, businesses, and organizations that have made a lasting impact on downtown during the previous year.
“We are presenting five awards for downtown this year, and they include our Downtowner of the Year which is the business or organization that we feel has had the most significant impact in downtown over the last year. We also have a Volunteer of the Year, Beautification Project of the Year and a Dynamic Downtown Business and Downtown Partner as well. In addition to our presentation of the Downtown Awards, the Seguin Commission on the Arts is partnering with us to present their art awards so we will also have four awards that will be presented to art organizations and businesses as well,” said Kramm.
Although the event is free, Kramm says there will be ways in which to elevate the evening.
He says this includes the purchase of a Picnic Basket for Two for $85. Each basket includes a charcuterie, wine glasses and a picnic blanket. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase commemorative wine glasses.
Baskets can be reserved in advance at the Seguin Visitor Center located at 200 South Austin Street. Kramm says a limited number of baskets will be available for purchase during the event.
Providing live music for the evening will be the Dirty River Jazz Band. A special raffle will also be held for a chance to win one of the available rose arrangements generously donated by local florists.
Those attending are encouraged to bring their own beverages, lawn chairs, or picnic blankets.
All proceeds raised that evening will go to support downtown beautification efforts.
