(Seguin) – A local group hopes to publicly send a message of support directly to Ukraine this Sunday. The community is invited to participate in the “Shout Out for Ukraine” event, which will be held on Sunday afternoon on the sidewalk across the street from the Seguin Public Library on West Nolte Street.
The 10 minute “shoutout” is being led by Lynn Campaigne of the Indivisible group. Organizers say they hope to send photos of Seguin’s support to Ukrainian groups and newspapers.
Among those who plan to be on hand for the event is local resident Janice Jarutowicz. Jarutowicz says this message being generated in Seguin is important for all Ukrainians, who continue to fight for their freedoms. She says it has also become personal now that her son, John, is among those living in Ukraine.
“My son is there. He has chosen to live there. He has filed for residency. He is involved with a lovely Ukrainian lady. As part of his residency application, he had to form a foundation which he has done. That’s in process and so he is putting down roots and he has helped. He took some kids shopping for graduation from the orphanage school. I don’t know if you remember the hospital that was hit last summer, the kids’ hospital. He was there with helping the first responders who were moving rumble – handing them water and doing whatever needed to be done at that site. He’s volunteering. He bought a car outside of Amsterdam, so he has a vehicle over there. He loaded it and took it to the flatline last summer and took things to the soldiers. Right now, he is involved with a group from Australia. He’s moving animals. People along the eastern front need to evacuate and they won’t leave because of their pets and so they are at risk and this organization, they contact them, and they go and pick them up and transport – mostly cats — but dogs to shelters all through Ukraine and then the people feel like they have the freedom to leave,” said Jarutowicz.
The “Shout Out for Ukraine” begins at 1:50 p.m. Sunday on Nolte Street across from the library. The brief event is expected to end at 2 p.m. with everyone shouting, “We Stand With Ukraine!”
