Big bats lead to victories for Seguin and Marion baseball along with Marion and Navarro softball on Tuesday


(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors crushed Sam Houston 28-0 on Tuesday, run-ruling the Hurricanes at Legends Ballpark to stay unbeaten in District 27-5A.

Everyone on the Seguin roster scored a run. Will Gray Mahaffey scored four times and drove in four. Jordan Herrera had two doubles and knocked in three runs.

On the mound, freshman right-hander Jackson Kirchner got the start and retired every batter he faced while striking out five over two innings. Elijah Hernandez also tossed two scoreless innings and fanned three. And Josh Medina struck out all three batters he faced in an inning of work. The Mats only allowed one hit in five innings.

The Matadors improved to 5-0 in district. They will play at San Antonio Lanier on Friday.

(Seguin) — The Lady Matadors were off on Tuesday. Seguin is 6-0 in district, 14-1 overall and ranked 10th in the latest Class 5A softball coaches poll. The Lady Mats will take on Lanier on Friday at the SA ISD Sports Complex.

(Seguin) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs took down the San Antonio Homeschool Saints 11-6 at the Fields at Huber Ranch in non-district play on Tuesday.

Cambry Dojahn had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double as the Lady Bulldogs picked up their 10th win of the season. Marion will host district rival Randolph on Friday in a game you can hear on KWED.

First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m. Our Lady Bulldog pregame will start at 6 O’clock Friday evening on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.

(San Antonio) — The Marion Bulldog baseball team evened their District 26-3A record at 1-1 with a 7-2 victory on Tuesday at Great Hearts Northern Oaks.

Gage Hamilton drove in two in the first inning on a two-out hit to get the Bulldogs on the board. In the third, Hamilton would score on a Casey Cloud base hit. And Huck Schoenvogel  blasted a two-run homer to left in the 4th.

Jack Wells went six innings on the hill giving up just two runs in earning the victory. The Bulldogs will also host Randolph on Friday.

(Geronimo) — Over in Geronimo, the Navarro Panthers fell 9-5 to the Davenport Wolves in eight innings in their District 27-4A opener Tuesday night at Navarro High School.

Down 5-1 in the sixth, the Panthers scored two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game. Noah Rosas launched a two-run shot to center in the bottom of the sixth to bring Navarro within two. In the seventh, Matthew Villanueva brought home Colt Brown with a sacrifice fly to center field to even the score. Davenport would answer with four runs in the top of the eight and hold on to get the win.

The Panthers and Wolves will rematch this Friday night at Davenport High School.

(Geronimo) — And the Navarro Lady Panthers earned their first district victory with a 17-7 drubbing of Bandera on Tuesday.

Sarah Falor and Shelbi Stevens smacked back-to-back doubles in the bottom first for the Lady Panthers to bring in two runs. Navarro scored six runs in the second. Kennedy Seek drove in two in the inning with a two-out single. Audrina Pacheco also brought home two with a two-out hit as the Lady Panthers would take a seven-run lead. Later, Jocelynn Diaz would end the game with a base hit bringing home Ally Antista in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the run-rule.

The Lady Panthers are 1-2 in district. They will host Wimberley on Friday.
