High school baseball/softball: Navarro baseball pummels Gonzales in run-rule romp

Navarro Panther pitcher Ryan Davidson delivers to a Gonzales batter at Navarro High School on March 20, 2025.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers jumped all over Gonzales in a 20-1 run-rule rout to wrap up their non-district schedule on Thursday at Navarro High School.

The Panthers scored all of their runs in just three innings while pounding out 13 hits. Caleb Wood and Matthew Villanueva each had three of those hits. Elijah Farley hit a mammoth two-run homer to right in the second inning.

“Our mindset is to be the best hitting team in the state of Texas,” Navarro head coach Colton Maiorka said about his lineup after the game. “I feel like we’ve done our job pretty well and then the guys that are not in the lineup are ready to go. So, we hang our hats on being a good hitting ball club. We just need to continue that.”

Freshman Ryan Davidson earned the win on the mound as the Panthers finished their non-district schedule at 12-1. Navarro will open District 27-4A play with two games against Davenport next week. The Panthers will host the Wolves on Tuesday and then Davenport will host Navarro next Friday.

(Fischer) — The Navarro Lady Panther softball team will look to level up their district record at 1-1 when they hit the road for a game against Canyon Lake this afternoon.

First pitch between the Lady Panthers and Lady Hawks takes place at 2 O’clock today at Canyon Lake High School.

(San Antonio) — The Seguin Matadors and Lady Matadors will try to keep their district records perfect in road games today against San Antonio Highlands.

The Matadors, 3-0 in District 27-5A, will square off with the Owls tonight at 7 p.m. at Highlands High School. The Lady Mats, 5-0 in district, will meet the Lady Owls at 7:15 p.m. at the SA ISD Sports Complex.
