Marion's Tesch wins 200th while Seguin baseball and softball stay unbeaten in district

Marion's Huck Schoenvogel gets a fist bump from catcher Brody Byler as teammates meet him after hitting a three-run homerun against New Braunfels Long Creek at Long Creek High School on March 18, 2025.

(New Braunfels) — Marion baseball coach Tim Tesch earned his 200th career win on Tuesday as the Bulldogs run-ruled New Braunfels Long Creek 15-2 at Long Creek High School.

“That’s not a coach Tesch thing, that’s a program thing,” Tesch said following his 200th win. “That’s kudos to these kids, they come to work every day. They put in the work. They do their job. The wins have to go to somebody, but to me that goes to those kids out there and every kid that’s played for me for the last nine years.

“It’s been fun, we’ve coached in a lot of baseball games and kudos to my assistants, we couldn’t do that without them and the support of the admin. So, we’re just gonna keep trucking and try to keep winning ball games.”

As for the ball game, Marion 1st baseman Huck Schoenvogel went 4-for-5 with two three-run homers and a double off the top of the wall in left and right-hander Jack Wells tossed a complete game. The Bulldogs are off for the rest of Spring Break. Marion will get back to District 27-3A play next Tuesday when they play at Great Hearts Northern Oaks.

(San Antonio) –The Seguin Matadors are 3-0 in District 27-5A after taking down San Antonio Burbank 5-1 on the road on Tuesday.

Matador righty Matthew Marek went five innings to pick up the victory. Marek tripled and scored on a two-out Elliot Weaver base hit in the top of the second to get Seguin on the board. Up 2-1 in the fifth, Ian Moreno stroked a two RBI single to give the Mats some cushion.

Seguin will look to go to 4-0 in district when they play at San Antonio Highlands on Friday.

(San Antonio) — On the softball diamond, the Lady Mats are 5-0 in district after they beat Burbank 8-2 in San Antonio on Tuesday.

Erin Johnston drove in five for Seguin and Marissa Torrence went 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Kaelynn Ramirez went the distance in the circle allowing only one earned run for the victory.

The Lady Matadors will be back in San Antonio on Friday to take on Highlands.

On the college diamond,

BROWNWOOD, Texas — Texas Lutheran Baseball rolled to a 13-1 win in seven innings over Howard Payne on Tuesday in Brownwood.

The Bulldogs are 15-6 on the season. TLU will return to Katt-Isbel Field to begin a six-game homestand this weekend by hosting Austin College for a three-game series starting Friday.
