Man killed, another injured in two vehicle crash


(Seguin)– A La Vernia man was killed Monday morning following a two-vehicle accident on South State Highway 46.

Seguin Police officials say the accident was reported at 7:52 a.m. in the 1600 block of Highway 46.

Upon arrival, officers observed that a 2013 Ford F-150, traveling northbound, had collided head-on with a 2007 Freightliner traveling southbound.

The 18-wheeler was fully engulfed in flames upon impact. The driver and sole occupant of the Freightliner was pulled to safety and later transported to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Killed was the driver of the Ford F-150. The victim is identified as Joshua Green, 26.

The vehicle’s sole passenger, Matthew Payton, 25, of Seguin, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center for treatment.

Officers with the Seguin Police Department’s Traffic Unit are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Currently, they say no further details are available as to what caused the crash.

The fatal accident caused the shutdown of that stretch of highway for several hours.
