Vandals pinpointed following destruction of local park amenities

(Seguin) — Seguin’s Park West is awaiting repairs after vandals targeted the local park not once, but twice in the past week. Stephanie Larrimore, Seguin PD community engagement officer, says the first damage was reported early Tuesday morning on Feb. 25. She says vandals reportedly destroyed the park’s restrooms and the bay door to the concession stand.

Following the repair of those damages, Larrimore says vandals struck again two days later. This time, she says the suspects had every intention of causing destruction as they brought several tools. Not only did they rip out the hand dryers from the walls of the restroom, but they also pulled off the toilet grab bars. Six swings were also cut and destroyed in the playscape area.

Seguin Police Detectives say they have successfully identified four suspects for the crimes. Larrimore says the suspects are believed to have caused anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 in damages – a state jail felony.

City officials say they are currently awaiting contractor bids so they can begin the necessary repairs. In the meantime, the city has placed portable restrooms at the park for the community.

With Spring Break around the corner, officials say extra patrol should be expected at all local parks. Larrimore also reminds the public to See Something, Say Something. She says citizens should never hesitate to report suspicious behavior and are encouraged to call the Seguin PD at 830-379-2123.
