Seguin and Marion softball teams slug out mercy rule wins

Seguin junior Camdyn Mikes gets a running start from 2nd base during the Lady Matadors victory over Lanier at Matador Legends Ballpark on March 4, 2025.

(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors batted around twice and scored 15 runs in the 2nd inning during an 18-0 mercy rule victory over San Antonio Lanier in their District 27-5A opener at the new Matador Legends Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Every Lady Mat in the lineup scored a run in the game that ended after three innings due to the mercy rule. Camryn Rios, D’Yanna Priestly and Kaelynn Ramirez each went 3 for 3. Priestly drove in six runs including three on a bases-clearing triple in her first at-bat in the second inning.

Ramirez was perfect in the circle for three innings, retiring every Lady Vok she faced. Outfielder Amaya Olivares kept Ramirez’s perfect game alive with a couple of nice putouts in right field.

Seguin head coach John Garcia talked about his junior right fielder after the game.

“She came off the JV from last year and we threw her out there,” Garcia said. “And she’s been doing a great job in right field for us. So, that’s not a surprise to us.”

The Lady Mats will look to go 2-0 in district when they play at San Antonio Jefferson on Friday.

(Poteet) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs bulldozed the Poteet Lady Aggies 17-2 in their District 26-3A opener on Tuesday in Poteet.

Lailah Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a home run for Marion in the rout, which also invoked the three-inning mercy rule. The Lady Bulldogs slugged 13 hits to start district play at 1-0. Marion will look to go 2-0 in district at home on Friday when they host Jourdanton.

(Geronimo) — And the Navarro Lady Panthers non-district game with Alamo Heights scheduled for Tuesday was canceled. The Lady Panthers will continue their non-district schedule on Friday at Llano.
