Fleming earns another Defensive Player of the Year to lead Marion boys basketball all-district honorees

(Marion) — Braeden Fleming took home his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award while Jaiden Riley and Travis Randle earned first team honors to lead Marion boys’ basketball All-District 27-3A accolades for the 2024-25 season.

Fleming, who won the District 26-3A Defensive Player of the Year award last year, led the Bulldogs in steals this year averaging nearly two swipes per game. The senior was second on the team in scoring pouring in 12.2 points per contest while averaging a team high 4.4 assists per game.

Riley was Marion’s leading rebounder. A junior, Riley pulled down 6.1 boards a game to go along with a 7.0 scoring average.

The junior Randle led the Bulldogs in scoring at 16.6 points per game. He was also lethal from deep, leading Marion in three-pointers made with 57 and three-point percentage at 38 percent.

Making the all-district second team for Marion were Davian Lagunas and Gavin Moltz. Lagunas, a senior facilitator, tied for second on the team with 2.0 assists per game. He also made 86 percent of his free throw attempts on the season. The junior Moltz was third on the team in rebounding behind Riley and Randle, averaging 4.1 rebounds per contest.

Three Bulldogs were selected to the district’s honorable mention list. They were juniors Jackson Missildine, Ajasin Olabanji and Nathaniel Halter.

The Bulldogs finished tied for third with Randolph in District 27-3A. Marion was 21-11 overall and advanced to UIL Class 3A playoffs where they fell to Crystal City in the bi-district round. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Jon Allen.
