(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors are back at play today for the opening day of the Seguin softball tournament at the Fields at Huber Ranch.

The Lady Mats won their season opener at the new Matador Legends Ballpark with a shutout of Lockhart on Tuesday. Lady Matador pitcher Kaelynn Ramirez threw a one-hitter. Ramirez had a no-hitter going until the 5th inning.

In the 1st inning, Lady Matador leadoff hitter Brylee Weiding hit a solo home run in the very first at-bat for a Seguin player at the new ballpark. Brylee talked about the home run.

“I honestly thought it was a pop-up,” Weiding said. “The wind was blowing in really hard, but I’m glad it went over for Chloe.”

Weiding referenced fallen teammate Chloe Belicek who would have been a senior on this year’s team but was lost in a tragic car accident this past summer. Belicek was the team’s leadoff hitter last year and now Weiding fills that role.

The Lady Matadors will compete in the Seguin softball tournament at the Fields at Huber Ranch through Saturday. Today’s tournament schedule has been pushed back a couple of hours due to wet conditions. The Lady Mats, originally scheduled to play this morning, will now play their first game at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.

The Seguin baseball team is scheduled to play their first game at the new Matador Legends Ballpark this coming Monday against San Antonio Johnson. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Monday.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Lady Panthers get their softball season underway today.

The Lady Panthers are hosting the Navarro softball tournament in Geronimo. The tournament also runs through Saturday.

(Kerrville) — And the Marion Lady Bulldogs are in the Hill Country for a tournament.

Marion is playing in the Ingram tournament. That tournament runs today through Saturday.
