(Seguin) — Seven student-athletes signed college letters of intent on Wednesday morning at Seguin High School.
All seven students will stay in the state of Texas. Six will continue their educations and athletic careers in Seguin at Texas Lutheran University.
Seguin softball player Camryn Rios will stay close to home, signing at letter to play at TLU. Rios established a new school single season home run record with 16 homers last season in her junior year. She was named a first team All-District 26-5A middle infielder and also named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A All-State softball team in 2024. Rios plans to study kinesiology and work in physical therapy after college.
Joining Rios in signing with TLU were Seguin cross country runners Prince Medrano, Ramiro Galvan and Adrian Aguirre. The trio were a part of a Seguin High School squad that won the school’s first district championship in cross country this past fall.
Medrano will join his father who is on the coaching staff at TLU. He plans to major in art and minor in business and aims to work in graphic designing after college. Galvan plans to study criminal justice and hopes to become a police officer following his academic career. Aguirre is planning to study kinesiology and athletic training and hopes to become a physical therapist. Off the track, Medrano and Galvan made news in May of 2023 when they were two of six local runners who helped a driver and passenger escape from a smoking vehicle.
Sammy Bode, who was a part of the Seguin boys 200-meter relay team that took home a gold medal at the Class 5A Region IV track meet in 2024, will join the track team at Texas Lutheran University. Bode will study kinesiology and plans to become an athletic trainer.
On the football field, Seguin defense end Jared Rogers will don a Bulldog helmet in the fall. Rogers, who earned second team All-District 13-5A honors following the 2024 season, has plans to study business at TLU while also pursuing machining as a trade. He would like to eventually obtain certification to work in the auto industry.
And Seguin linebacker Gavin Gil will also be a Bulldog of a different kind, a Navarro College Bulldog. Gil was the leading tackler for the Matadors this past season. He also made the all-district second team. Gil plans to study the welding trade while possibly pursuing an education in petroleum engineering at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas.
