Seguin Main Street welcomes new Downtown Coordinator

New personnel brings experience in film production industry

Special by Kyle Kramm, Main Street & CVB Director

(Seguin) — The Seguin Main Street Program is pleased to welcome Charissa McLain as the City of Seguin’s new Downtown Coordinator. Charissa will be filling the role after long time Seguin Main

Street employee Christy Hopper retired at the end of January.

Charissa comes to Seguin with extensive experience in the film production industry working on the sets for “Little Miss Sunshine,” “Brothers & Sisters,” “The Bad News Bears,” and “Best in Show.” In her roles with production companies, Charissa was in charge of keeping all the moving parts of filming organized and being able to adapt

the film schedule as conditions changed. A skill that will be important in her role as Downtown Coordinator as she works to organize downtown events.

Charissa was born in Plainview, Texas, which just like Seguin, was one of the original Texas Main Street communities when the program launched in 1981. As a child, she would move to California which is where she joined the film industry. She often came back “home” to Texas working her family’s cotton gin, cattle, and horse racing businesses – something she enjoyed.

While in California, Charissa would volunteer her time to strengthen her community by organizing fundraisers to support local businesses after the community was ravaged by wildfires. Charissa understood the important role small businesses played in maintaining a community’s sense of place.

“I was given the opportunity in 2018 to join the crew of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ that was filming in Austin and I jumped at the chance to return to Texas. I was lucky to have been with that show for three years and that was when I made the decision that I was ‘HOME’ and moved back to Texas,” said Charissa.

In her role as the Downtown Coordinator, Charissa will assist in planning and organizing all events in downtown Seguin, assist in initiating downtown policies, market downtown to potential businesses and visitors, and help complete the projects in the Downtown Master Plan and Seguin Main Street Work Plan.

“We are excited to bring Charissa on board with us,” said Kyle Kramm, Main Street & CVB Director, “Charissa is bringing great ideas and a strong work ethic to the team which will continue to build upon the successes of the department.”

“I’m excited to work with and meet new people, bring new ideas, and explore the possibilities of what could be,” said Charissa. Please join Seguin Main Street in welcoming Charissa to Seguin!
