New Year's Road rage shooting suspect now behind bars

(Seguin) – A man wanted in connection for a road rage shooting on New Year’s Day in Seguin has been apprehended in neighboring New Braunfels.

Seguin Police say the suspect, Shiye Fuentes, 19, was arrested on Friday without incident. Fuentes was reportedly hiding out at a motel in New Braunfels.

At 11 p.m., New Braunfels Police Department’s SWAT Team executed a search warrant, took Fuentes into custody without incident, and turned him over to the Seguin PD Case Unit.

Officials say Fuentes was also found with a handgun, several magazines, ammunition, and illegal narcotics in his hotel room.

According to Seguin PD, the road rage incident was reported at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1 in the 800 block of San Antonio Avenue. The incident, however, initially began on Huber Road.

PD officials say what started as a road rage confrontation quickly escalated into an argument between Fuentes and another driver. That argument allegedly resulted in Fuentes firing shots at the other vehicle. Officials say the victim, who was also from Seguin, was not injured by gunfire.

Fuentes was booked into the Guadalupe County Jail and is being held in lieu of a $175,000 bond. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
