(Marion) — The Marion boys were victorious while the Marion girls came up short in District 27-3A basketball games against Randolph on Friday night at Marion High School.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to the Lady Ro-Hawks 38-35 in the first game of a girls/boys doubleheader. Lady Bulldog seniors Brianna Hunter, Kamryn Parsons and Breelon Allen played in front of the home crowd for the final time on Senior Night. Allen led all scorers in the game with 17 points including the first eight points of the second half for Marion. Hunter and Parsons each finished with three points a piece.
Marion had already clinched a playoff spot before Friday night’s game. They will finish up their district schedule this coming Tuesday at Great Hearts Northern Oaks. The Lady Bulldogs will compete in the bi-district round of the girls basketball playoffs, which will start on February 10th.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Marion boys avenged an earlier loss to Randolph by taking down the Ro-Hawks 53-39.
After the teams battled to a 20-20 tie at halftime, Marion scored the first eight points of the second half and would not relinquish the lead. Jackson Missildine led the Bulldogs with 14 points including 12 in the second half. Braeden Fleming finished with 10 for Marion while Travis Randle dropped in eight points.
The Bulldogs earned a measure of revenge for a 37-36 loss to the Ro-Hawks at Randolph High School back on January 14th. Marion moved within one game of second place Randolph in the district standings after Friday’s victory while also earning their 20th overall win of the season.
The Bulldogs will play at Great Hearts Northern Oaks on Tuesday. They will close their regular season next Friday at home against Young Men’s Leadership Academy.
(Seguin) — In Seguin, the Seguin Matadors moved closer to a playoff berth with a 45-39 home win over San Antonio Edison on Friday night.
Matador forward Corey Dailey led all scorers with 22 points. Seguin improved to 10-3 in District 27-5A with three games left in the season. Another win by the Mats or a loss by San Antonio Burbank will clinch a spot in the postseason for Seguin. The Matadors will play at San Antonio Highlands on Tuesday.
(San Antonio) — The Seguin Lady Matadors took down Edison on the road, 39-30 on Friday night.
The Lady Mats were paced by Jazlyn Gil who had 15 points. Britlyn Walls tallied 14.
Despite the win, Seguin was eliminated from the playoffs when Highlands defeated Jefferson on Friday night. Seguin will host Highlands on Tuesday.
(Fischer) — The Navarro Runnin’ Lady Panthers punched their ticket to the postseason with a 55-30 win at Canyon Lake in District 26-4A play on Friday.
Tegan Harborth had 17 points to lead Navarro. Jill Baker also scored in double figures for the Lady Panthers with 13.
Navarro clinched a playoff spot with the victory. The Lady Panthers will close their regular season this coming Tuesday when they host Bandera.
(Geronimo) — And the Navarro Panthers took down Canyon Lake 39-34 on Friday night in Geronimo.
The Panthers are now tied for third place with Canyon Lake in District 26-4A with three games remaining. The Navarro boys will play at Bandera on Tuesday.
