Guadalupe County, Navarro ISD, SA Food Bank joining forces

Food distribution event set for this weekend

(Seguin) – Today is the deadline to register online for this weekend’s food distribution event.

Guadalupe County this Saturday will be joining forces with the Navarro ISD and the San Antonio Food Bank in hosting the Community Food Distribution Event. Teams of volunteers will be on hand to help load vehicles this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Navarro Intermediate School parking lot located at 588 Link Rd.

Patrick Pinder, Guadalupe County emergency management coordinator, and fire marshal, says the county continues to partner with area school districts to provide the much-needed food assistance to all families in the area.

“The food distribution started back really when COVID hit the community. We really started seeing the need for Guadalupe County to start getting some extra food and then retired Commissioner (Greg) Seidenberger pushed for food distributions to come to the community and we began having these. We have had several food distributions over the last several years. We just did one last month in Seguin. It just brings a sense to people of hope, and it allows them to know if they need some food and if they need to feed their families, that they can show up to these distributions,” said Pinder. “It’s just a great effort by the commissioners court here in Guadalupe County, the food bank and all of the school districts that we partner with to make it happen.”

To ensure that enough food is available, Pinder encourages families to register in advance today (Thursday, Jan. 30)  by 1 p.m. at https://freshtrak.com/register/event/316548 . But no matter what, Pinder says families who need food are still invited to show up.

“If they go to register for food and the link is not working, we encourage them to show up to the school on Saturday and get in line and we will get them registered on site,” said Pinder.

Pinder says volunteers are also needed to help distribute food. He says everyone in the community is encouraged to lend a hand.

“Without volunteers, these can’t happen. My staff is very limited. My staff actually shows up on these distributions. I don’t make them show up to these distributions. The last few distributions that we have had, we had a lot of volunteers. We had almost 100 volunteers at the Clemens one. We had about 70 at the Seguin location this last time and looking at rough numbers, we’ve got about 50 signed-up for Navarro but that does not mean that we still don’t need people,” said Pinder.

Volunteers will be needed from 7:30 a.m. to noon. To volunteer signup at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdtS_UBPm9z1SYzau-SzKp_VPdBv9IoxZHIdvVFFbhqoXkdIw/viewform?usp=pp_url
