Area high school basketball teams come up short on Tuesday

The Navarro and Davenport JV girls basketball teams compete before the varsity game at Navarro High School on January 29, 2025.

(Geronimo) — The 21st-ranked Davenport Lady Wolves held off the Navarro Runnin’ Lady Panthers, 51-49 in a District 26-4A matchup on Tuesday night in Geronimo.

The teams traded blows in the first half. After Navarro took a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Wolves and Lady Panthers erupted for 20 points apiece in the second quarter. Navarro guard Jillian Baker hit four three-pointers in the first half and guard Tegan Harborth dropped in 13 first half points including a buzzer-beating shot at the end of the half to give Navarro a two-point lead.

Harborth stayed hot early in the second half, scoring the first seven points of the third quarter to give Navarro their largest lead of the night at 40-31. Davenport responded with a 14-4 run to close the quarter to go up, 45-44. Both defenses clamped down in the fourth quarter as the team combined for just 11 points. Davenport held on when a Harborth jumper at the end of the game was off the mark.

The senior Harborth led all scorers with 23 points. Sophomore Rebecca Jackson had 18 to lead the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Panthers have two more games left in the regular season. They’ll play at Canyon Lake this Friday and then host Bandera next Tuesday. A win in either game will clinch a playoff spot for Navarro. The bi-district round of the UIL girls basketball playoffs takes place on February 10th and 11th.

(San Antonio) — Over in San Antonio, the Navarro Panther boys fell to 23rd-ranked Davenport 59-32.

The Panthers are 2-4 in district, tied with Fredericksburg for fourth place with four games left. Navarro beat the Billies last week. They will travel to Fredericksburg to close the regular season on February 11th. The Panthers will host third-place Canyon Lake on Friday night.

(San Antonio) — The Marion Bulldog boys fell at 9th-ranked San Antonio Cole, 62-43 in District 27-3A play on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Cole Lady Cougars raced past the Marion Lady Bulldogs, 51-34 on Tuesday night in San Antonio.

Both Marion teams will host Randolph on Friday for a girls/boys double header. We will have both of those games for you on KWED on Friday.

(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors and Lady Matadors were off on Tuesday.

The Seguin boys, in a tie for third place in District 27-5A with San Antonio Edison, will host Edison on Friday. The Seguin Lady Matadors are in 5th place in the district, two games behind San Antonio Highlands with two games left in the season. The Lady Matadors will play at Edison on Friday night.
