(Seguin) — Seguin ISD Trustees will meet tonight to potentially decide on a superintendent evaluation instrument. Tonight’s special board meeting will provide the board a chance to decide on how it would like to conduct the evaluation of Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Veronica Vijil. Trustees last week spent two and a half hours filtering through ways of approving a format to measure Vijil’s performance. The board by state statue and policy must evaluate the superintendent at least every 15 months.
As reported last week by KWED, the board wants to make sure that the data that is used to measure Vijil’s performance aligns with her time in the district. During last week’s meeting, there reportedly were lots questions raised during the meeting about the data to be considered. Dr. Vijil took over the role after the start of the last school year, and board members questioned if it would be fair to judge her performance based on numbers that happened when she either wasn’t in charge, or when she had just taken over the operation of the district. That includes looking at STAAR test scores from last year. Some STAAR testing began in the early spring, when Vijil had only been superintendent for a short time.
The approved evaluation instrument is expected to be used during next month’s evaluation.
The special meeting gets underway today at 6 p.m. in the Seguin ISD Board Room located inside of the administration building next door to Arlan’s Grocery.
