(Geronimo) — Navarro ISD Athletic Director and Navarro High School head football coach Rod Blount is leaving the school after seven years with the district to become the new Athletic Director at George West ISD.
Navarro ISD Superintendant Mandy Epley announced Blount’s decision in a letter this morning. Addressing the district in the letter, Epley said,
Coach Blount has served Navarro ISD with distinction for the past seven years. During his tunure, he upheld cherished traditions and solidified a culture of excellence and sportsmanship to Navarro Athletics. He has dedicated countless hours to supporting our students, helping them grow not only as athletes but also as young adults. Coach Blount has consistently emphasized the importance of academics and encouraged student athletes on and off the field, resulting in numerous student athlete academic accolades.
At Navarro ISD, we strongly believe in service and growing our Panther Family members and that support extends to endeavors that take them outside of our district. We appreciate Coach Blount’s positive contributions and commitment to our students, coaches and the entire Navarro ISD community. We are proud of Coach Blount’s accomplishments and wish him all the best for this next chapter in his career.
Blount came to Navarro in 2018 and replaced Les Goad, who left for Buda Hays High School after 11 years in Geronimo. Goad retired in 2023 after six years at Hays.
In his seven years as the head football coach at Navarro, Blount led the Panthers to at least the area round of the playoffs in each of those years.
