Seguin basketball to host first place Highlands this afternoon on KWED


(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors will match up with the first place team in District 27-5A this afternoon in a game you can hear on KWED.

The Mats will welcome the San Antonio Highlands Owls to Goldie Harris Gym. Highlands is unbeaten through six district games this season.

Seguin is 3-2 in district after taking down San Antonio Edison, 58-42 on the road on New Year’s Eve. Matador forward Corey Dailey leads Seguin averaging a near double-double with 22.1 points and nine rebounds per game. Colton Saengerhausen averages nearly eight points and three assists per contest.

(San Antonio) — The Seguin Lady Matadors, winners of four straight district games, will travel to San Antonio today to take on the Highlands Lady Owls.

The Lady Mats defeated Edison, 39-35 in overtime on Tuesday to bring their district mark to 4-3. Sophomore Rebeka Wilke hit a contested layup at the buzzer to send the game to overtime and the Lady Matadors outscored the Lady Bears, 9-5 in the extra session to earn the victory.

The Seguin Lady Matadors and Highlands Lady Owls will tip at 1 p.m. today at San Antonio Highlands High School.

(Cuero) — The Navarro Panthers fell on the road to Cuero, 54-37 in non-district play on Thursday.

The Panthers will hit the road again on Tuesday at San Antonio Memorial.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Runnin’ Lady Panthers open District 26-4A play tonight when they host 20th-ranked Wimberley. The game tips at 6:30 p.m. this evening at Navarro High School.

(Marion) — And the Marion basketball teams will host a pair of games today.

The Bulldog boys will lock up with Blanco this afternoon at 12:30 p.m. Then the Lady Bulldogs will get their District 27-3A schedule started when they host Young Women’s Leadership Academy. The girls will get underway at 6:30 p.m. at Marion High School.
