(Seguin) — The doors of the Big Red Barn will swing open this weekend for Country Christmas 2024.
The Texas Agricultural Education and & Heritage Center will again be hosting two nights of Christmas festivities throughout the barn and Heritage village.
Board Member Keith Huebinger says volunteers have been working hard to transform the property into the perfect Christmas spot for local families.
“As we call it the a.k.a. The Big Red Barn – the board has been working and the volunteers have been working on this for weeks now as far as getting everything under Christmas lights whether it be the outdoors or all the interior with Christmas trees and lights so again, very much a traditional and very much family themed (event),” said Huebinger.
The Big Red Barn, however, will be more than just a place to visit the lights.
Huebinger says every inch of the property, including the Texas Pecan Museum, will be bustling with plenty of family activities.
“In addition to that in the Pecan Museum, we are going to have children’s arts and crafts. There’s going to be all sorts of things for kids to make including Christmas ornaments and other neat decorations they can take home with them. At the same time, we will have a hayride going on. We will have a marshmallow roast. We will have Cowboy Cobbler out in the Village. Other live demonstrations that we are going to have is Blacksmithing, rope maker, Seguin Fiber Guild will be here demonstrating and like I said, the Village will be open. All the museums will be open. Also, let me not forget, Santa is going to be here both nights starting at 6 p.m. HEB Buddy will be here as well,” said Huebinger.
Huebinger says there will also be plenty of live music at this year’s Country Christmas. He says the Ag Center will offer two different music line-ups each night.
“We will have two live choirs on Friday. That’s the Seguin High School Chamber Choir and then the McQueeney Baptist Church Choir and Band. Tom Engler will also be performing along with some of his friends. On Saturday, we’ve got three choirs – the German Choir (New Braunfels Gemischter Choir Harmonie). In addition to that, we’ve got Cross Church from here in Seguin also the First Baptist Church Choir from Seguin,” said Huebinger.
Also performing in the Main Hall on Friday will be Kirk Herbold & Friends followed by The Brushy Creek Boys on Saturday.
Huebinger says the Big Red Barn has worked hard to make the event affordable and encourages families to come out and share in the holiday spirit.
“If they need tickets, everything will be at the door. Now, here’s the great thing. Again, we are very much focused on Christmas and family and so because of that, 25 bucks will get the entire family in. That’s mom, dad and any number of children for 25 bucks. Outside of that, 10 bucks for adults. So, it’s what we consider a really great deal. We prefer check or cash, but we will have credit card available as needed,” said Huebinger.
Also scheduled at this year’s event is a live nativity scene being hosted by Faith Lutheran Church. The live nativity scene, however, will only be available on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.
This year’s Country Christmas will be held Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. The Big Red Barn is located at 390 Cordova Road.
