Marion Bulldogs bring home all-district and academic all-state football accolades

(Marion) — Coming off a playoff season, the Marion Bulldogs saw a number of student-athletes recognized on the recently released All-District 13-3A football team.

Senior offensive lineman Garrett Mann was named the district’s Offensive Lineman of the Year. Mann was an all-district first team selection in each of his sophomore and junior years. He scored the first touchdown of his career in a 65-20 Bulldog Senior Night victory over Florence in November. In October, Mann was selected to play in the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game set for January 11th at the Alamodome.

Making all-district first team defense for Marion were linebackers senior Hadley Mote and junior Jaiden Riley, defensive linemen senior Weston Teboe and junior Cayden Schultze, and senior defensive back Gavin Soefje. Making the first team on offense were wide receivers freshman Eli Parker and sophomore Jack Wells along with senior running back Christian Sanchez. Mote, Teboe and Schultze were dual first teamers on offense and defense. Mote was named a first team tight end. Teboe was the first team punter and Schultze was first team on the offensive line.

Second team members for the Bulldogs were junior quarterback Kade Pape, junior running back Tanner Otis and senior linemen Isaiah “Snake” Carnahan and Broc Birdwell along with lineman Riley on offense. Defensive second team members for Marion were defensive linemen senior Adonis Gutierrez and junior Ian Nevarez along with senior defensive back Caden Hernandez. Wells was named to the second team at defensive back while Birdwell was a second team defensive lineman.

40 Bulldogs were selected to the Academic All-District team. Those honorees were Pape, Parker, Mote, Riley, Nevarez, Hernandez, Wells, Soefje, Sanchez, Teboe, Otis, Schultze, Gutierrez, Mann, along with Aaron Salinas, Reide Reiniger, Hayden Hamilton, Gage Hamilton, Emerson Blevins, Max Ambrosen, Josh Aguilar, Kolten Rios, Laney Bock, Chase Colon, Brayden Summers, Bauer Birdwell, Dillon Mora, Jose Molina, Mark Pardo, Ryan Mowery, Garner Garcia, Aiden Vargo, Elijah Vasbinder, Jackson Mann, Tristan Schlogel, Trent Larson, Cash Rabenaldt, Mateo Zuniga, Gavin Camarillo  and Nate Halter.

Garrett Mann was named Academic All-State First Team by the Texas High School Coaches Association. Aiden Vargo and Brayden Summers were named Academic All-State honorable mentions.

Marion routed Jourdanton, 46-14 in the Class 3A Division I Bi-District playoffs for their first postseason victory in five years. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Ryne Miller, who completed his 7th season at the helm of the Marion football program.
