Seguin's Nik Henry inks football commitment to UTEP

Seguin High School senior Nk Henry (in orange) poses with teammates at his college football letter of intent signing at the high school on December 4, 2024.

(Seguin) — Seguin High School senior Nik Henry signed a college football national letter of intent on Wednesday to continue his athletic and academic career at the University of Texas at El Paso.

The wide receiver led Seguin with 59 catches for 725 yards and 11 touchdowns in nine games played this past season. Henry led the Matadors in receiving during his junior campaign in 2023 with 35 receptions for 766 yards and eight TDs in eight games. The three-year letterman finished his career with 98 receptions for 1557 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Henry was named a three-star recruit by athletic recruitment website 247Sports and by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. The Seguin wide-out says he felt UTEP was the place he wanted to be during the recruiting process.

“The coaches stayed in touch with me. They showed me love since really January when I got (their) offer,” Henry said. “They came down to see me a couple times before I went to visit. And I went on an unofficial visit and I just knew that was home. I loved it there. I loved the culture. I loved the atmosphere. I loved the stadium. I loved everything about it. And I think I fit perfectly in their offense. And my official visit just sealed the deal and I’m a Miner now.”

Henry plans to study kinesiology at UTEP. He has aspirations of playing football on the professional level.

Seguin head football coach Craig Dailey feels Henry can contribute early in his career for the Miners.

“He’s an electric player. He’s gonna be able to make big plays in the return game and in the passing game. I think he’ll be able to make an early impact there,” Dailey said. “He’s still debating on (enrolling) early or not. He’ll probably make that decision in the next week or so. But he’ll be successful no matter which way he decides to go.”

Henry is also a stand-out track athlete. The Matador sprinter finished fifth in the boys 100 meter dash at the UIL Class 5A state track meet last spring.

Henry and Seguin senior offensive lineman David Barron were selected to play in the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game. The game will be played on Saturday, January 11th at the Alamodome.

UTEP is a Division I FBS program. The Miners finished sixth this season in Conference USA under first-year head coach Scotty Walden.
