(Marion) — The Marion Bulldogs took a battle of Guadalupe County schools Monday, defeating the Navarro Panthers 48-35 at Marion High School.
The Bulldogs were paced by Travis Randle, who had 16 points including four three-pointers. Navarro was led by Elijah Farley, who had 14 points.
The Panthers are led by a new head coach this season. Jarrett Tyler comes to Geromino after spending nine years as an assistant at Klein High School, just northwest of Houston.
Tyler says he’s grateful to be a part of the Navarro community.
“It’s a great area, great people to be around, great kids and I’m thankful to be here,” Tyler said. “I know the kids listen, they want to do right and if they continue to come with that attitude every day in practice, then we’ll continue to do better. That’s my big thing. We just want improvement. I don’t want anybody to come back in a month and see the same team. Just from an effort and execution standpoint. I want us to improve every single day and every single week.
“They’re at it again learning a new system, but they’re great kids and like I said, I’m thankful to be here.”
Following the Thanksgiving holiday break, Coach Tyler and his Panthers will play at the La Grange tournament December 5th through December 7th. Navarro will play their first home game of their season on December 10th when they host the Yorktown Wildcats. Navarro High School will host the Panther Classic tournament December 12th through December 14th.
