Seguin ISD welcomes new board president

The newly elected officers for the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees include, left to right, new Board President Denise Crettenden; Vice President Linda Duncan and Secretary Grace Mueller.

(Seguin) — Seguin ISD Trustees have elected a new board president. Taking over the leadership position will be District 5 Trustee Denise Crettenden. Crettenden says she looks forward to serving constituents in this new capacity.

“I am excited. I think that we’ve heard a lot from the community and there is a lot of things that we are able to work on moving forward and I’m really interested in hearing what the community has to say and hearing from staff and students and parents and I think we have the chance to do some really great things in the Seguin ISD,” said Crettenden.

Crettenden takes over the role of former Board President Alejandro Guerra. Guerra, who represents District 2, says it was time to hand over the reins.

“It’s mainly personal reasons. I’ve enjoyed it. I know that Denise, Linda and I have been on board for six years and actually, Denise took the officer’s training before I did and so after Cinde (Thomas-Jimenez) left, we just kind of talked and I knew eventually it would come to this point. This seat is not just for one. It’s for anyone who wants to join, and we talked about it. It means I’m still going to be here though. There’s a lot of things we can still do. It is just that I won’t be sitting in this middle seat,” said Guerra.

The reorganization of the board also includes the election of District 4 Trustee Linda Duncan as the board’s new vice president. Duncan last year served as board secretary. Meanwhile, taking over those secretary duties will be District 3 Trustee Grace Mueller.

The board Tuesday night also administered the oath of office to its newly elected trustees. They included Grace Mueller who returns to the board for a full term along with District 6 Trustee Lisa Burns and newly appointed District 1 Trustee William Dwyer.
