(Seguin) — The Seguin boys and girls tipped off basketball tournaments at Seguin High School on Thursday.
The Matador boys split a pair of games, dropping their first one to San Antonio Taft 71-55 and then rebounding in their second game with a 68-39 victory over San Antonio Southside. Seguin junior Corey Dailey scored 27 points in the first game. He followed that up with 24 in the second. Senior Colton Saengerhausen averaged 11.5 points in the two games. The Matadors return to action tomorrow.
The Seguin girls also split two games on Thursday. The Lady Mats were edged, 40-38 by Crystal City in their first game and then came back later to beat Pleasanton, 38-22. Freshman Faith Franklin averaged 11.5 points per game to lead Seguin in scoring.
The Lady Mats return to tournament play this morning against Kenedy. The game tips at 9 a.m. at the Seguin High School Student Activity Center.
(San Antonio) — The Navarro Runnin’ Lady Panthers are playing at the San Antonio Cole girls basketball tournament.
On Thursday, Navarro swept their first two games. The Lady Panthers beat Devine, 54-43 in their first game and then rolled past La Vernia, 62-40 in their second. Navarro senior Tegan Harborth had 26 points in the first game and 32 in the second. The Lady Panthers continue play in the Cole tournament through tomorrow.
(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs are hosting Davenport this afternoon. The game has an early start so Marion fans can travel to Seguin following the game for the Marion Bulldogs Area round football playoff. The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Wolves will tip at 4 O’clock at Marion High School.
(Seguin) — And the Lifegate Christian girls and boys basketball teams will host a double-header against New Braunfels Thunder today. The girls will play first at 5 O’clock this afternoon at Lifegate Christian School.
The Lady Matadors are opening the Seguin girls basketball tournament against Crystal City this morning!
