(Floresville) — The Navarro Panthers will meet rival Cuero on Friday night in the Area round of the Class 4A Division II playoffs.
Navarro ran past Carrizo Springs, 56-14 in the Bi-District round last week. Cuero routed La Feria, 83-20 in their first round playoff game last week.
Friday’s playoff between the Panthers and Gobblers will be the 10th meeting between the teams in the last seven years. In some of those years, Navarro and Cuero were in the same district, meeting once in the district season and then again in the postseason.
The Panthers have two of the biggest rivalries in the state. One with Cuero and another with district foe Wimberley. Navarro head football coach Rod Blount says those rivalries create high standards for all three teams.
“Iron sharpens iron. You want to be the best in the business, you gotta play the best. And Cuero and Wimberley are two of those,” Blount said. “We try to hold ourselves to that standard as well. We’ve shared some good battles and took some victories from them as well. You know when you play Cuero or Wimberley, you’re gonna get better every time you step on the field.”
Friday night’s playoff between Navarro and Cuero takes place at Floresville High School. Kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
