(Seguin) — The volleyball post-season all-district selections have been announced for District 27-5A and a number of Seguin Lady Matadors earned accolades for their efforts as the district co-champions in 2024.
Senior Karina Lerma was named the district’s Most Valuable Hitter. The three-year letterman had 428 kills on the season and led Seguin with a 39.9% kill percentage.
Gisele Morales was tabbed the district’s Most Valuable Setter. The junior had 1100 assists in 2024 to lead the Lady Matadors. In her two seasons on the Seguin volleyball team, Morales has compiled 1914 assists.
Other Lady Matadors recognized on All-District teams are as follows:
Sophomores Elli Anderson, Danica Rushlow and Rebeka Wilke – 1st Team All-District
Sophomore Britlyn Walls – 2nd Team All-District
Senior Ayla Arcos and junior Mia Hernandez – Honorable Mention
Elli Anderson led the Lady Matadors with 436 kills and 8 blocks. She also had 63 service aces to lead the Lady Mats in that category.
Danica Rushlow was third on the team with 396 digs. She served up 22 aces in the 2024 season.
Rebeka Wilke was second on the team with 61 blocks. Her 163 kills were third among Lady Matadors.
Named to the Academic All-District team for the Lady Matadors were Anderson, Arcos, Lerma, Morales, Rushlow, Walls, Wilke, Lilah Bird, Bella Homan, Marissa Torrence and Kiersten Walls. Karina Lerma was named to the Academic All-State 2nd Team by the Texas High School Coaches Association
The Seguin Lady Matador volleyball team won 28 games overall in the 2024 season and finished as the co-champions in District 27-5A with a 15-1 district mark. The Lady Matadors won their first 43 sets in district play before losing the second set in a match at district co-champion San Antonio Burbank on October 25th. Seguin advanced to the UIL Class 5A Region IV Division I Area round and were led by third-year coach Ashley Farris.
The Lady Matadors were without teammate Chloe Beliceck this season. The incoming senior passed away on July 25th following injuries sustained in a car crash. Seguin honored Belicek on Senior Night before a match at Goldie Harris Gym on October 29th.
