Baseball/softball complex naming back on the table tonight

Seguin ISD to welcome newly elected, appointed trustees

(Seguin) – The Seguin ISD tonight will not only be looking at new names for various components of its new high school baseball/softball comples, but it will also look at introducing a few new names on its board of trustees.

Tonight’s agenda includes several key items in which trustees will be deciding on.

First, the district will hold a special meeting to canvas and administer the oath of office for three trustees. They include newly elected trustees Grace Mueller, District 3 and Lisa Burns, District 6. The board will also welcome newly appointed trustee William Dwyer. Dwyer, who will represent District 1, was recently appointed after no one filed to replace former Trustee Carl Jenkins during the Nov. 5 election.

Following the special election, the board will host its regular monthly meeting.

Topping the agenda is the possible naming of the new Seguin High School Baseball and Softball Complex. The agenda also includes the consideration of names for each individual field or other key components of the complex.

A total of 16 nominations for the naming of the complex was submitted not only during the first round of nominations but also during the second round.

District officials felt they had to open things up for a second round so that everyone felt heard and was given an opportunity to be a part of the process.

The district also received a total of 8 nominations for the naming of the softball field only and nine nominations for the baseball field.

It should be pointed out that some of the nominated names received multiple requests.

Several nominations were also excluded for not meeting the criteria as established by the district.

Other nominations were also submitted for various other parts of the complex.

The district hopes to secure a new name for the new athletic facility as the high school prepares for its official grand opening in January.

The special meeting gets underway at 6 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Seguin ISD Administration Building located at 1221 E. Kingsbury St.
