Seguin ISD Town Hall meeting to address bullying set for tonight

(Seguin) – Seguin ISD families are reminded about tonight’s Town Hall Meeting Last week, the school district emailed a letter inviting families to the town hall meeting which will consider and begin the dialogue of some very tough issues.

In that letter, the school district states,” Seguin ISD is aware of incidents involving district students that have been featured in local media. Federal laws and district policies surrounding student privacy prevent us from discussing the cases with the public. However, the district can address its practices and procedures surrounding student safety.”

Officials say the district takes all reports of bullying seriously and has protocols to investigate them, and – when applicable — determine disciplinary consequences and/or criminal steps to follow. These protocols, they say, are used in every bullying incident that is reported to the district.

They say they understand that parents have concerns about bullying and student safety. They also confirm that the Seguin ISD believes it has a strong anti-bullying program and bullying response system.

They note that reports of issues such as bullying, fights, crimes against children, drug use or sales on campus and others, also can be made anonymously through the P3 portal. A link for that portal is always available on the district’s website.

District officials, however, say they do recognize that there is always room for improvement. To that end, district officials say that is why they have scheduled tonight’s Town Hall Meeting to discuss bullying and other concerns with the community.

The town meeting gets underway at 6 p.m. today in the Seguin High School Performing Arts Center located at 1315 E. Cedar St.
