Navarro ISD Athletes Sign Letters of Intent to Continue Academic and Athletic Careers

GERONIMO, TX – November 13, 2024 – It’s a day filled with pride and promise. Years of early mornings, late nights, and countless hours of practice and unwavering passion has paved the way for four outstanding student-athletes who have committed to taking the next step in their athletic journey and educational careers at the collegiate level.

Celebrating National Signing Day, Seniors Kate Wozniak, Morgan Helms, Colt Brown and Matthew Villanueva have signed letters of intent to attend Texas A&M University-Kingsville, The University of Texas at Dallas, University of Louisiana-Lafayette and Southeastern Baptist University, respectively.

“It’s an incredible day for Navarro ISD athletics. To see these four outstanding student-athletes sign their National Letters of Intent is a testament to their dedication, and the support of their families and coaches,” said Coach Rod Blount, Navarro ISD Athletic Director. “I’ve had the privilege of watching these students grow and succeed into young men and women ready to make their mark in the world of college sports. They’ve embraced the challenges, celebrated the victories, and always strived for excellence. It’s truly inspiring to see their dreams come true.”

Navarro ISD is committed to providing students with opportunities to excel in both academics and athletics. “We are incredibly proud of their achievements,” said Superintendent Mandy Epley. “Their accomplishments on and off the field are a testament not only to the quality of our athletic programs, but also the commitment of our coaches and teachers. We wish them all the best as they embark on this exciting new chapter in their lives.”

Kate Wozniak, beach volleyball, Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Kate is the daughter of Brigid and Doug Wozniak, and will be studying Psychology.  Accolades: Newcomer of the Year (2021), Academic All-District (2021-2024), and Second Team All-District (2022 & 2023), First Team All-District and Academic All-State (2024).

Morgan Helms, volleyball, The University of Texas at Dallas. Morgan is the daughter of Nicole and Jason Helms and plans to pursue Accounting. Accolades: Academic All-District Team (2022, 2023 & 2024), Honorable Mention (2022), Second Team All-District (2023 & 2024), Academic All-State (2024).

Colt Brown, baseball, University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Colt is the son of Megan and Matt Brown and plans to major in Kinesiology. Accolades: Second Team All-District (2022 & 2023), Unanimous First Team All-District (2024), Second Team All-State (2024).

Matthew Villanueva, baseball, Southeastern Baptist University. Matthew is the son of Bobby Villanueva and Dawn Gomez, and will be studying Business. Accolades: Second Team All-District (2023 & 2024), First Team All-District (2024).
