(Lytle) — The Navarro Running Lady Panther girls basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 36-17 road victory at Lytle on Monday.

The Lady Panthers took control of the game early, jumping out to a 26-3 lead at the half. Madi Gilliam, who competed at the Class 4A state cross country meet earlier this month, led Navarro with 16 points. Camden Shields dropped in seven for the Lady Panthers. Jill Baker, Kalli Scott and Joselle Uncangco Burgos each had three points.

Both of Navarro’s early victories have come on the road. The Lady Panthers, currently ranked 25th in the Class 4A state girls basketball coaches poll, will play at home for the first time this season when they host Marion on Saturday morning.

(Jourdanton) — Speaking of the Lady Bulldogs, they fell 70-22 at Jourdanton on Monday night. Marion is 1-2 so far this season. Marion and Navarro will tip off at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Navarro High School.

Turning to the boys:

(New Braunfels) — The Seguin Matadors and New Braunfels Unicorns will get together on the basketball court this evening.

The game is the first of the season for the Seguin boys basketball team. After two fifth-place finishes in District 26-5A the last two seasons, Seguin moves into District 27-5A this season. San Antonio Jefferson is the lone state-ranked team in the district. The Mustangs are ranked 22nd in the latest Class 5A boys state coaches poll.

The Unicorns fell in their opener this past Saturday, 56-36 at San Antonio Reagan. Tonight’s non-district game tips off at 7 p.m. at New Braunfels High School.
